Michael Craig Byrd

April 9, 1959 - March 5, 2024

Bishop Michael Craig Byrd of South Boston, VA died on Tuesday, March 5th at the age of 64.

 

Bishop Byrd was born in Washington, DC on April 9, 1959 to the late Donald Cooper and Sylvia Thorpe-Cooper and was raised by his stepfather, the late Edgar Byrd.  He was married to Alesia Byrd and was the Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church at the time of his death.

 

Bishop Byrd is survived by his wife, Alesia Byrd of the home, (6) children: Janetta Boyd, Dominique Smith (Jason), Erynne Quigtar (Ryan), Latisha Richardson, Shawn Richardson (Danesha), and Jordan Gray; (7) grandchildren; (2) great grandchildren; (1) sister: Cynthia Cooper Byrd Wilson (Tyrone); godparents: Dr. Darryl and Mariam Norton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by (1) brother, Ronald Cooper-Byrd and (1) sister, Crystal Cooper-Byrd.

 

Funeral services for Bishop Michael Craig Byrd will be Friday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m. at South Boston Church of God with Rev. Dr. Earl Purvis, eulogist.

 

Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
