Clara Taylor Abbott died Monday, October 23, 2023, in the Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia.

 

Clara Taylor Abbott was born in Halifax County Virginia on April 12, 1937, to the late Fred Robert Taylor and the late Mary Lizzie Hundley Taylor. On June 23, 1956, she was united in marriage to the late James William Abbott to which 4 children were born.

Clara Taylor Abbott leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Sonya D. Abbott; beloved granddaughters: Erica D. Abbott, Cecelia S. Britton, and Chelsey S. Britton; sisters: Coreen T. Watkins and Queen E. Dixon; son-in-law, Zachary McCargo and daughter-in-law, Melinda Abbott. She is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and host of other cousins and friends, including the devoted Lasheeka Freeman and Calvin, Trentyn, and Treyvon Stephens.

Clara was preceded in death by Infant Abbott, son, James Anthony Abbott, III; daughter, Felicia Cassandra Abbott McCargo; brother, Fred L. Taylor; and sister, Mary E. Taylor. 

​

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28th at 2 p.m. at Crystal Hill Baptist with Pastor Louis S. Leigh in charge of the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

​

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Crawford House Chapel, Halifax, VA.
