Ms. Barbara Mae Carden died on Wednesday, October 11th at the age of 83.

 

Ms. Carden was born in Halifax County, VA on April 8, 1940 to the late Nathaniel Sawyer and Emcee Owens and Riley Street and Willie Street. She first joined Piney Grove Baptist Church and later became a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church.

 

Ms. Carden is survived by (3) daughters: Brenda Bowman (Harold) of Scottsburg, VA, Kim Richardson Reed (Chris) of Oxford, NC and Dr. Veronica Coleman (Calvin) of Suffolk, VA; (1) son: John Gary Richardson (Valincia) of Scottsburg, VA;  (9) grandchildren; (1) god granddaughter; and a host of great grandchildren; (3) step grandchildren; (3) sisters: Charlene MacDonald, Shirley Odham and Carolyn Wilson (Jimmy) ; (1) brother: Addwa Mahdee; (1) aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandchild: Jakayla A. Richardson.

 

Funeral services for Ms. Barbara Mae Carden will be Monday, October 16th at noon at Banister Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. William Carr, eulogist. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

 

Public viewing for family and friends will be Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
